Dumpling Adjacent is an online community cookbook that explores Asian flavors, traditions, and stories through food.

Our vision of Asia is expansive and spans the breadth of the continent. We aim to represent the diversity of the pan-Asian diaspora, especially under-represented perspectives.

We believe delicious food can bring us together, whether through a recipe that travels through time or a potluck that gathers us around a table.

This project has its roots in Oral Traditions, a social recipe-sharing project begun during the 2020 pandemic by Angeline Gragasin. It extended the work of Happy Family Night Market, a community organization active between 2018 and 2023, whose mission was to celebrate the Asian diaspora and deepen cross-cultural exchange through food, art, and education.

We’re very excited to share our latest recipes and videos with you! If you make our recipes at home, please tag us @dumpling.adjacent (on Instagram or Tiktok) — we’d love to see how you made them your own!

We invite home cooks, artists, writers, and chefs to contribute recipes.

Our focus is family recipes, and we love a dish with a good backstory. We’re looking for recipes that are meaningful to you, that play a role in your community rituals, social events, or family ties. We want recipes you cook regularly, whether it’s once every few years or once a week.

We’d love to learn about meals you make from memory; we’re happy to help you translate them into a recipe. And we’d be honored to be entrusted with a dish cooked by elders or family members, if you can serve as the intermediary.
